LeMans-1970 Porsche 917K

Shan-and-Red-MG-MGA.jpg

The paintings that I create are usually done from my own reference photo. Our family attends car shows and events like Goodwood Festival of SpeedPirelli World Challenge, F1, etc. This painting was created thanks to a generous photographer.

My husband was reading Reddit and saw a photographer that had taken several photos at the Porsche museum in Germany. When he saw this 1970 Porsche 917K (the one that Steve McQueen drove for LeMans), he knew I’d want to paint it. I contacted the photographer, and we worked out a barter for his image.

Per Road & Track: “This 1970 Gulf-liveried 917K was used as a test car for Le Mans before becoming the star car in Steve McQueen’s legendary racing movie LeMans film. After being sold and left to sit in a barn for over two decades, it emerged in 2001, and now after a full restoration, it’s been sold for $14 million, making it the most expensive Porsche ever.”

I’m very happy with how this turned out. This is the first of a racing, hyper, and super vehicle series I am starting. My goal is to have a large body of work together for a solo exhibition during F1 2019. Many more vehicles to go, but I have some stunning photos to work from thanks to generous parties.

A big THANKS to Jae for his wonderful reference photo. Check out his Instagram.
