"Anticipation" - Shelby Cobra, 24"x30"x1.5", 2020.

I am fortunate to live in Austin, Texas as we have the Circuit of the Americas race track here in town. This location offers not only the United States F1 race in the fall, but also local car clubs and events where drivers can push their vehicles to the limit. I attended one of these events in 2019 and saw this helmet on a Cobra during a track break. I quickly snapped a photo with my cell phone. The helmet seemed like a patient companion waiting for the owner to return for another thrilling run around the track.

This painting was created during the Covid-19 pandemic. I struggled with creating this work as my head couldn't concentrate. It is also a different direction than the works I am known for of cars and motorcycles. The focus to me is the helmet and how it reflects the world around it.

NOTE: This painting was included in the National Oil & Acrylic Painter's Society Fall International 2021 Online Exhibition. This is a great honor as there were over 1400 entries and approximately 200 works chosen from around the world.
